Barnett Family Update 2002
Well, another year has come and gone! They go much too fast,
don't you think? This year has been quite the exciting year.
Our year did not start with the usual trip to Sanibel with
Nanny and Poppy Barnett - now that the kids are in school full time we
don't have vacation in February at the same time so Nanny and Poppy went
without us. We missed them and Florida terribly, but we can only hope that
Nanny retires soon so they can go during our breaks!! J
So, everybody had a very busy and productive year. Aliza is
now in 1st grade, and loving it. Aliza was very busy with Soccer in the
Spring and Fall, piano lessons, and now dance. She just started Hebrew
school on Sunday's and is enjoying learning more about the Jewish
experience. She keeps very busy reading her books and playing computer
games. Aliza is still the same cuddly and lovable little girl, even though
she is growing up quick!
Naomi has also been quite busy - between piano lessons,
dance, and drama (a class she took with her sister - they just performed
their year end play and it was wonderful). Naomi also has Hebrew school
three days a week - twice during the week and on Sunday's. A big
commitment, but Naomi has shown to be a much better student of Judaism
than her father! Naomi is doing very well at school and is turning into a
lovely young lady.
Andrea has had a busy year - she stopped teaching at Hebrew
School two nights a week, but replaced that with subbing in our town's
school district. She was even offered a full time sub position in
February, but we weren't quite ready for that yet, and Aliza was only in
school part time, so the timing wasn't right. However, this school year
was different - after subbing a few times, she was again offered a full
time sub position - one of the teacher's needed some time off to take care
of herself and her ill mother. Andrea took it this time, and has been
teaching full time since early October. In early December, she found out
that one of the other science teachers was retiring at the end of the
month, and she applied for the full time position. We just found out last
week that she got it! So, starting January, Andrea will be teaching full
time at Marlboro Middle School - 8th grade science.
Scott actually had only one job all year, believe it or not!
Scott spent the entire year at Atomica, a software startup company that he
joined in March, 2001. However, things have been tight in the Enterprise
software market and Atomica is in for some changes in 2003. Stay
tuned...
We were blessed with a few new members of the family this
year. Andrea's brother Larry and his wife Sherry had a baby girl (Cameryn)
in May, and Scott's brother Randy and his wife Angie had a baby boy
(Zachary) in January. Both babies are beautiful and healthy, and the girls
have really enjoyed their new cousins.
We also celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary this year
- it seems like yesterday that we were getting married! We went to Italy
and spent 12 glorious days together (and alone!) enjoying the sites,
sounds, and beauty of Northern Italy. It was a fantastic vacation and we
are so lucky to have great parents to help out - Andrea's Mom came in from
Arizona and watched the kids through the 2 weeks, with Mom and Dad Barnett
and Larry and Sherry Thaler helping out on the weekends. We have lots of
pictures, and someday they'll make it onto the web site!
In terms of outside activities, everybody has picked up some
new hobbies. Andrea had been very active with PTA, helping out at school
in art programs, and a woman's group (ORT). Scott took a class to become
an EMT-B and rides with the local First Aid Squad when he can. We also
finally joined a Temple this year (Marlboro Jewish Center) and Andrea and
the girls have become quite active there - Naomi is in the youth group,
Andrea is helping out with Saturday services for the kids and we try to go
the first Friday of every month to "tot-Shabbat" - a special service
geared towards the kids. They love the singing and cakes at the end of the
service!
So, it's been another full year and we look forward to an
equally exciting 2003. We hope this finds you and your family happy and
healthy, and as always our door is always open - come by or call or
email!
Love,
Andrea, Scott, Naomi and Aliza |
